We're not going to lie: judging the Core77 Design Awards is a blast... and a challenge! The competition doesn't disappoint and never fails to offer up the most innovative design created today. We're thrilled to share with you the visuals that came out on top.
Café Affetto Automatic Espresso Machine
Simply stunning: The visuals for the Café Affetto Espresso Machine showcase the product’s high-end design in sleek, gorgeous scenes. Crafting beautiful backgrounds that complement, not distract from, the product itself is an especially tricky task, and the team behind these visuals mastered it perfectly. The images and video evoke a rich, warm elegance and an undeniable realism. We are proud to select this team as the 2022 KeyShot prize winner. Bravo! How did you use KeyShot throughout the design process?
"KeyShot is the only 3D rendering software our studio uses. We used KeyShot renders to visualize rough early concepts, more finalized concepts for reviews with internal and external stakeholders, images for consumer research, and final product renderings for use in marketing materials, sales pitches, and design award entries. We also used KeyShot renders to communicate design intent and specifications to our engineering, suppliers, and marketing departments.
"KeyShot allowed us to quickly visualize finishes and forms so we could make design decisions and craft the best product for our consumer. When working with non-creatives, it helps to have near photo-realistic images to communicate design intent."

AuraGlow LED Whitening Kit
White is a famously challenging color to render realistically; a set of small, white, and translucent products provides its own set of hurdles. This winning team created a clean, appealing set of images in an impressive array of settings. The visuals' uncluttered, natural look draws the eye to the product details. What challenges did KeyShot solve in the case of this particular project?
"KeyShot allows us to visualize our ideas in a majority of our industrial design presentations and a large number of our marketing renders. KeyShot quickly visualizes material and form on products very effectively, along with providing efficient tools for being able to quickly make complex materials like fabric and bristles appear realistic.
"We use KeyShot in every step of the industrial design process and often in the marketing rendering process for its ease of use and quick visualization abilities."

Garmin fēnix® 7 Watch
These Garmin fēnix® 7 watch visuals are seriously fun. Some of the images are rendered photo-realistically, while others are super stylized. The team used KeyShot to review designs with management, showing realistic materials, textures, and colorways. Quick renderings helped them show a wide range of color and material options as they advanced through the later phases of the design process. The ability to evaluate different material finishes (like radial brush, linear brush, polish, and sandblasting) helped them move forward with the confidence that they had the best possible finishes for the watch design.
What challenges did KeyShot solve in the case of this particular project?
"We were spending too much time and money making appearance models. This would slow down the design process as engineers would need to wait before being able to make real progress on the project. We used to make a lot of appearance models for final design approvals, but with KeyShot we can now show low fidelity physical models with high fidelity renderings for approvals. Using KeyShot has saved us significant time and money throughout the design process.
"We have a large studio with a wide range of design experience and KeyShot allows newer designers to contribute immediately in addition to supporting our most experienced designers. Drag and drop textures and real-time rendering are very approachable and easy to use. More advanced features like the material graph allow us to create high-level photo realistic renderings. Network rendering capabilities have allowed the team to offload processor-intensive tasks and focus on other issues while the designs are being rendered. This has led to increased levels of productivity and more time for other creative pursuits."
